A LITTLE BIT ABOUT US
Granley Rovers
were established in the 1990/91 season although we take our
founding date as July 1992, when we first opened our Club
accounts.
The Club has
since grown to encompass all age groups within youth
football, playing in Mini Soccer, Tyro and Soton Youth
Leagues. We can now offer progression into adult football
following our link with Twyford Football Club who run 3
teams based at our home pitches at Hunter Park, Twyford.
This is in addition to our own Adult Team who play in the
Winchester Sunday League under the Granley banner.
We are also
able to offer training to much younger children through our
Minnows initiative for 5 – 7 year olds at which boys and
girls receive qualified coaching from youngsters aged 18+
who pursue their F.A. Coaching badges and are predominately
previous Granley players who have progressed through our
Club structures and age groups.
Granley Rovers
are an Eastleigh and Twyford based Club who started out
training and playing at Grantham Green in the centre of
Eastleigh. Our name comes from the first four letters of
Grantham coupled with the old spelling for the end of
Eastleigh (Ley) – hence GRANLEY. The Rovers part was added
by the boys playing at that time who all happened to be
Blackburn Rovers fans – possibly due to Blackburn being
league champions at that time!
We take pride
in the reputation we have gradually established over the
years for being a well organised, respected and friendly
Club. We have had, and continue to have, many successful
teams in the leagues in which we compete but our pride comes
more from seeing players developing and enjoying their
chosen sport.
We were very
proud to achieve F.A.Charter Status in January 2006. This is
an esteemed award which demonstrates our commitment to Youth
Football for many years to come and underlines our core
values.
